Hakaya GIL – The Stories of Youth in Lebanon

Hakaya GIL is an inspirational storytelling event, featuring 10 youth who will share moving stories of how, through sheer will and perseverance, they managed to triumph over various obstacles in their lives. The audience will have the chance to hear first-hand accounts of struggles through poverty, loss, illness, war, displacement, and above all, the closed doors of opportunity. The youth participating in this event have all participated in UNICEF Lebanon’s Generation of Innovation Leaders (GIL) program, which makes access to resources and knowledge related to innovation, technology and STEM more accessible to thousands of youth across Lebanon, reaching even the most remote and marginalized areas. The event offers youth the chance to be heard, and their efforts as entrepreneurs to be recognized through a marketplace section. The youth stories are in Arabic, with live English translation. The Generation of Innovation Leaders program is powered by UNICEF Lebanon, funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the German Cooperation.

About me

The Nawaya Network identifies promising youth from low-income backgrounds in Lebanon and connects them with mentors, trainers, classes, funding, internship, and employment opportunities.

In 2017, we aim to support up to 3,100 youth in three main programs: The Innovation and Entrepeneurship program, part of the UNICEF Innovation labs; a coding bootcamp for unemployed computer science graduates from low-income backgrounds, in partnership with Bader Young Entrepreneurs Program; and a talent development program for underprivileged youth.
